My Sister’s Keeper Foundation for Women was founded in 2004 by Dr. Antoinette G. Alvarado and five charter members, with the goal of effecting change in the lives of women through professional capacity building coaching relationships.
My Sister’s Keeper Foundation’s (MSK) mission is to move women from average to excellence. The foundation’s vision is dedicated to equipping and empowering a diverse community of women in their educational pursuits and goals, acquisition of life skills, and personal and professional development. This is accomplished primarily through the medium of professional coaching, mentoring relationships and partnerships with other organizations that address the needs of women.
MSK Foundation has grown to include three comprehensive programs: Leadership and Life Coaching Program, Scholarship Programs: Margaret G. Baker Second Chance Award and Single Mother’s Resource Exchange and the MSK Next Generation Program.
To date, the organization has graduated 81 women from the Leadership and Life Coaching Program, awarded $35,000 in financial scholarships through the Margaret G. Baker Second Chance Award and assisted single mothers with vouchers toward fees related to extra-curricular, academic, athletic and fine arts programs for their children through the Single Mother’s Resource Exchange.
MSK Next Generation facilitates programming for female middle school, high school and college students in coaching, leadership development, and self-esteem workshops. The organization partners in school, civic and community events such as career days, college and health fairs. The foundation’s work in the community extends to the annual Raven & Yolonda Johnson Mother’s Day Dinner at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta-Egelston Hospital and the Comfortable in Your Own Skin Empowerment Conference for Women and Girls, which unites women and girls to a full day of seminars focused on building their confidence and self-esteem. MSK hosts its annual Women of Excellence Awards and Benefit luncheon which recognizes outstanding women in their field and graduates of the Leadership and Life Coaching Program. Since its founding, the foundation has impacted women both nationally and internationally through its programming and work in the community.
